How to get rid of pimples?!

Since each person is endowed with a different skin type, there are different ways to deal with pimples. There are various ingredients that are known for their cleansing effects and good effects on pimples and blackheads.

Today we’ll talk about one ingredient that has a cleansing and exfoliating effect – benzoyl peroxide. My cosmetologist said that it can be used during and after pregnancy.

What is benzoyl peroxide?

Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is a colorless, crystalline solid which has the chemical formula C14H10O4. Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most effective acne treatments available.

How do pimples form?

Pimples form when dead skin cells mix with excess oil (sebum). This mixture plugs the pore, causing swelling. Bacteria can grow in the mix and lead to infection and pus.

How does benzoyl peroxide work?

Benzoyl peroxide breaks down in contact with skin, producing benzoic acid and oxygen. Oxygen kills the acne-causing bacteria by damaging and destroying the membrane of the infected cell.  Moreover, oxygen stimulates collagen production, delays the aging process. Benzoic acid causes skin to peel and dry, exfoliating out the plugs of dead skin and sebum that inflame follicles, causing bumps.

Benzoyl peroxide can bleach hair, eyebrows, and fabric. Therefore be careful with clothing and pillowcases and wash your hands well after use.

There are various products with benzoyl peroxide. When used correctly, these products can markedly reduce pimples and blackheads. It cleans clogged pores, has anti-inflammatory effect and inhibits sebum production. But this can lead to dryness, as well as redness and excessive peeling. Therefore, you need to use these products correctly. Apply medication only to your blemishes. Start by applying once a day in the evening and wash with skin cleanser in the morning. If your skin can tolerate it, after a few days you can apply treatment in the morning and evening. So your skin will not dry out.

Since benzoyl peroxide makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, it is recommended to use it only in the evening. If you use it during the day, protect your skin: wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen.

Conclusion

Benzoyl peroxide has been used successfully for 40 years against pimples and with good use most people can handle it. Skin becomes dry and there is a risk of over-exfoliation but with additional proper skin care this can be controlled. When using benzoyl peroxide, any marks (caused by pimples) gradually disappear. In short, it is a very effective ingredient when you suffer from pimples and blackheads.

Are you familiar with benzoyl peroxide? And if so, what is your experience?
